At first glance, companies seem to have regulatory compliance under control. Few notice any obvious gaps. But beneath this superficial confidence lie deeper weaknesses. Many companies admit to using third-party providers that are not fully compliant. At the same time, manual workflows, fragmented tools, and reactive strategies continue to burden teams. In a more stable environment, these compromises were acceptable. Today, however, companies face a three-pronged challenge in complying with modern regulations:
- Accelerated regulatory pace: Regulations are evolving faster than ever before.
- Cross-functional complexity: New requirements include ESG, AI governance, cybersecurity, and more.
- Functional fragmentation: Isolated tools and teams lead to disjointed efforts to comply with legal regulations.
A survey of over 400 GRC professionals underlines the increasing intensity of this challenge:
- 40% of respondents say that keeping up with regulatory changes is their biggest challenge.
- 38% report that they struggle with excessive manual effort required to comply with legal regulations.
- 32% state that they lack AI-supported automation to streamline processes.
In this environment, short-term solutions quickly lead to long-term risks. “Good enough” becomes a liability. Given the speed and complexity of today’s change, the status quo is no longer sustainable. Companies must change their mindset and move beyond simply complying with regulations, instead fostering strategic resilience.
